EMS Field Coordinator (Clinical Care)

Peninsulas EMS Council, Inc. is looking to fill the full time position of EMS Field Coordinator (Clinical Care). The EMS Field Coordinator (Clinical Care) is responsible for managing various programs and functions to include the development, implementation, and coordination of the clinical care programs, which may include Regional Performance Improvement Program, Northern Neck Quality Assurance Program, Regional STEMI Plan and Stroke Plan. Work may also involve assignment to any of the council programs when deemed necessary. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Director.
Minimum Education and Experience: Certification as a Nationally Registered or Virginia EMT-Intermediate in good standing with the Virginia Office of EMS, Three (3) years experience in emergency medical services work, and must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license with a good driving record.
Preferred Requirements: Associates Degree in health science or related field, certification as a Nationally Registered or Virginia Paramedic, and two (2) years EMS leadership experience.
Pay Rate: $17.00/hr ($35,360.00/year)

Virginia Beach EMS Brigade Chief
The City of Virginia Beach Department of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) seeks an experienced individual to serve as an EMS Brigade Chief. This individual will manage and direct the delivery of skilled emergency and non-emergency services in a variety of areas including: emergency medical and rescue operations, advanced medical assistance, mentoring, training, public education, volunteer agency administration and coordination, disaster management, and other duties as required. An EMS Brigade Chief typically commands an EMS brigade consisting of multiple stations, medic groups and/or specialty teams and is responsible for all personnel, equipment, apparatus, and facilities under their direction. Brigade Chiefs often function as Duty Shift Commanders and as such oversee all on duty EMS resources, including twelve or more staffed ambulances, zone cars, squad trucks, and special response vehicles. Individual will also engage in the direct provision of advanced life support pre-hospital patient care at the EMT-Paramedic level as needed.

Summary:
The Employee will be responsible for technical emergency medical service work. The provider Will be responding to a variety of injuries, illness and life threatening situations. Work involves determining the nature and extent of the problem; taking the appropriate steps to alleviate the problem; and determining the appropriate medical facility to accommodate the patient. Work is performed independently at the scene of the occurrence and under the general supervision of the EMS Supervisor at other times.
Essential Functions:
* Performs necessary basic and advanced life support care on sick, injured, or convalescent persons at sites of emergencies, en route to hospitals or other locations; observes and abides by established protocols in the use of medical procedures.
* Administers drugs by means of intravenous, intra-muscular, subcutaneous and endo-tracheal therapy as directed by protocols or physician.
* Supervises and provides patient care at the scene of emergency incidents, as needed.
* Attends training programs in emergency medical service and techniques, both at the assigned station and other locations; reviews and studies current literature.
* The employee will maintain their current or higher level of EMS certification.
* Conducts training sessions for other emergency response personnel and the public; develops training aids and programs; repairs and maintains training aids.
* Attends training sessions including specialized regional schools, annual re-certification and specialty courses.
* Assists in fire suppression and hazardous material activities as required by the incident commander.
* Checks mechanical operation of ambulance; cleans ambulance both outside and inside; decontaminates; checks and maintains assigned medical equipment; assures supplies, drug and other expendables are maintained at their desired level.
* Performs housekeeping and maintenance duties at assigned stations
* Performs routine clerical and administrative functions such as preparing reports and training materials; used the following software: Firehouse, WordPerfect, Microsoft, and related software.
* Performs job safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures and county safety programs.
* Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work condition or practice to supervisor.
* Participates in public relations and educational programs as directed by the Office of Emergency Services.
* Operates a variety of medical equipment including EKG and carbon monoxide monitors, laryngoscopes, endo-tracheal tubes, defibrillator, oxygen equipment, pulse oximetry, cardiac pacers, and hospital radios.
* Operates portable equipment as necessary to assist in fire suppression, specialized rescue, and hazardous materials responses.
* Performs related work as directed by the Office of Emergency Services.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of emergency medical methods, practices, and equipment; considerable knowledge of basic and advanced life support procedures; considerable knowledge of EMS protocols; practice, and procedures. Considerable knowledge of County geography.
Some knowledge of computers and software and the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to deal courteously, but firmly, with the public on especially difficult and sensitive subjects.
Ability to analyze situations and to adopt and direct quick, effective, and reasonable courses of action with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances.
May not be a member of a Louisa County volunteer fire or rescue organization during employment.
Training and Education:
High School diploma or equivalent; current certification as an EMT-C or EMT-P by the Virginia Department of Health Office of EMS; experience as a volunteer/career ALS provider for a minimum of 3 years.
Special Requirements:
Maintain the following licenses and certifications: EVOC, EMT-C, EMT-P, Professional Rescuer CPR. Provider must have a Virginia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. The provider must have satisfactorily completed the Advanced Life Support Preceptor program, in effect at the time, or equivalent as determined by the EMS Supervisor. Must have Firefighter I certification or obtain within one (1) year of employment.
