EMS Field Coordinator (Clinical Care)

Peninsulas EMS Council, Inc. is looking to fill the full time position of EMS Field Coordinator (Clinical Care). The EMS Field Coordinator (Clinical Care) is responsible for managing various programs and functions to include the development, implementation, and coordination of the clinical care programs, which may include Regional Performance Improvement Program, Northern Neck Quality Assurance Program, Regional STEMI Plan and Stroke Plan. Work may also involve assignment to any of the council programs when deemed necessary. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Director.
Minimum Education and Experience: Certification as a Nationally Registered or Virginia EMT-Intermediate in good standing with the Virginia Office of EMS, Three (3) years experience in emergency medical services work, and must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license with a good driving record.
Preferred Requirements: Associates Degree in health science or related field, certification as a Nationally Registered or Virginia Paramedic, and two (2) years EMS leadership experience.
Pay Rate: $17.00/hr ($35,360.00/year)

Powhatan County, a growing community with a progressive government located just west of Richmond in the beautiful Capital Region of Virginia, is accepting resumes from qualified applicants to serve as the County’s first Chief of Fire and Emergency Medical Services.This position requires a bachelor’s degree preferably in fire science or related field and ten (10) years of fire experience, including five (5) in a supervisory position of Fire Captain or above; and experience with an emphasis on volunteer relations or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires Virginia drivers license, NFPA/VA Certified Officer II or above, NFPA/VA Certified Instructor III or above and current certifications as a Commonwealth of Virginia EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic with extensive field experience. Out of state applicants must possess Virginia certification equivalencies and the ability to obtain valid Virginia certifications within a year of hire. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to lead by example. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong leadership and managerial skills with an emphasis on volunteer relations including but not limited to recruitment and retention, team building and conflict resolution. This position requires 24 hour on-call availability and the ability to work in extreme weather and hazardous working conditions.

LOCATION: Fire and Rescue Department, Office of Public Safety, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport, MA-321/322.
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: Authority Employees and Outside Candidates
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Responds to and mitigates emergency incidents including, but not limited to, structural fires, aircraft accidents and/or fires, medical emergencies, automobile accidents, boating/water accidents, hazardous materials releases and confined space emergencies including tunnel emergencies, terrorist related emergencies, and weather related emergencies. Performs emergency medical services at the advanced life support (ALS) level in airport, public roadway, office and community settings. Responds to all types of emergency situations and, under the direction of the Incident Commander (or a physician in certain ALS situations), carries out assigned duties to mitigate the emergency. Maintains assigned apparatus and equipment in clean and operationally ready condition. Helps maintain facilities in a clean, safe and healthy condition. Functions as Alarm Room Operator, as assigned. Assigned to one of three 24-hour shifts working an average 56-hour workweek.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have two years of Emergency Medical Services experience and two years of firefighting experience as an active and regular member of an organized fire department. To be creditable, volunteer experience must include regular attendance at regularly scheduled meetings held for the purpose of training and instruction and must also include regular and actual participation in fighting fires. In addition, qualified candidates must meet the following minimum criteria:
1. Must be 18 years old by date of employment;
2. Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate;
3. Must be certified to operate independently in the field for a minimum of one year as an EMT-I (or higher);
4. Must be certified as a NFPA/Pro Board Firefighter II;
5. Must be certified in Haz Mat Operations.
And, provide a copy of the following referenced document with their application package:
6. EMT-I Certification (or higher) from the Virginia Department of Health, National Registry (showing effective and expiration dates). Reciprocity is currently available for issuance of equivalent Virginia certification based upon the following certifications:
a. EMT – Intermediate certification issued by the National Registry of EMTs.
b. EMT – Paramedic certification issued by the National Registry of EMTs.
Reciprocity is no longer offered at the EMT Cardiac certification level.
7. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification to the standard of the American Heart Association.
Once hired, the Firefighter Medic must be accepted by the Authority’s Occupational Medical Director for independent practice as a Firefighter Medic within the first year of employment. Failure to maintain required certifications, in accordance with proper procedures, will result in removal from the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Experience gained in combating fires resulting from aircraft crashes or other accidents peculiar to airfield operations are preferred. Airport Firefighter, Haz Mat Technician certification and college level courses or a degree in Fire Science are also preferred. Dispatcher experience, technical rescue experience, weapons of mass destruction training and computer experience are highly desirable.
EVALUATION CRITERIA: The evaluation is based upon the total information contained in your application and assessment forms considers all required and preferred qualifications including job-related experience, training and education.
To be rated qualified, the experience on your application and assessment must support the minimum qualification requirements of the position and demonstrate that you possess: 1) knowledge of and skill in fire prevention, suppression and rescue methods, tactics, techniques, apparatus, equipment, tools and materials to respond to, mitigate and help close out a wide variety of routine and emergency incidents; and 2) knowledge of, and skill in, ALS methods, tactics, techniques, apparatus, equipment, tools and materials, as well as established medical protocols, to respond to, mitigate and close out a wide variety of routine and emergency medical incidents.
Applicants who are rated fully qualified will be notified and scheduled for an examination (general aptitude test), an EMS and Firefighter test for technical knowledge. Your name will be placed on a Register according to your final score. As vacancies occur in the Fire and Rescue Department, only the best-qualified candidates will be referred to the Fire Chief, in rank order, for further consideration until the register expires, one-year unless exhausted sooner.
All candidates referred to the Fire Chief are subject to an oral interview, and a physical agility test. Candidates who are notified for an interview must provide proof of valid driver’s license from their state of residence. If selected a complete background investigation (to include a full employment history check; a credit check; a criminal history check; and a driving record check) will be conducted. , A pre-employment medical examination to include drug testing will be required before a final hire date is determined. Psychological testing may also be required. Employees must pass annual medical testing criteria.

The Campbell County Department of Public Safety is seeking a motivated, customer service oriented and outgoing person to fill the role of a full time volunteer fire and EMS Recruitment and Retention Coordinator. Applicants should have experience in public relations and/or marketing and in working with volunteers and must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications. The ideal candidate should have an Associates Degree and experience in emergency medical services (EMS) and volunteer rescue squads. This position requires schedule flexibility, honesty, integrity and the ability to work well with the County’s Fire and EMS volunteers.
The successful candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screening, DMV record check, and criminal history background check.
Starting Salary Range: Dependent upon qualifications and/or experience.
