The Campbell County Department of Public Safety, EMS Division is seeking motivated, customer service oriented and skilled Emergency Medical Service providers to fill up to six vacancies. It is anticipated that at least three to four of
the vacancies filled will be with applicants certified at the level of EMT Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic. All applicants must have current Virginia EMS certification at the level of EMT-Basic or higher, NIMS IS-700 and NIMS IS-100
certifications, current EVOC (class 3) and CPR certifications along with at least one full year of active EMS experience. Applicants certified as an EMT Intermediate or Paramedic must also have current ACLS, PALS and ITLS/PHTLS certifications. The ideal candidates will also have vehicle extrication certification, Virginia firefighter certification and/or instructor certifications as well. County’s EMS Volunteers. The selected candidates will be assigned to 24 hour shifts located out of any one of the rescue squad facilities in Campbell County.

    Description Benefits Supplemental Questions

    Responds to calls for emergency services including emergency medical service, fire suppression, and hazardous materials; provides basic and advanced life support levels of emergency medical service; participates in training of volunteer fire and rescue personnel and in community awareness and public education programs on fire prevention and emergency medical services; inspects and maintains tools, apparatuses, supplies, and equipment; performs a variety of administrative tasks including entering data into computer files and preparing activity reports, and performs related tasks as required.

    Typical Qualifications:

    Certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia (VA EMT- Intermediate), Emergency Vehicle Operator II (EVOC II), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Virginia Department of Fire Programs Firefighter II (VA DFP Firefighter II), and in hazardous materials (HAZMAT) operations. Must have considerable experience in emergency services, high school diploma or GED, and driver’s license valid in Virginia.

    Physical Requirements:
    Requires the exertion of 100 pounds of force regularly and exertion in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally; additional physical requirements available upon request and will be presented during the hiring process.

    Supplemental Information:

    Candidates are placed on an eligibility list based on results of a written examination and physical agility test. Top candidates from this eligibility list are then selected based on the results of a panel interview, background investigation, polygraph test, and pre-employment physical examination.

    Copies of current certifications and DMV record (dated within 30 days) must accompany application.

    Candidate selected will be required to satisfactorily complete a criminal history and fingerprint check, post-offer, pre-employment medical exam, alcohol and controlled substance tests at the County’s expense unless this requirement has been completed for current County position.
