Botetourt County Emergency Services (BCES) is currently accepting
applications for EMT/Firefighter-BLS and EMT/Firefighter-ALS. For

BCES provides Fire and Emergency Medical Services to the 35,000 plus
citizens covering over 512 square miles of the County of Botetourt on a
24-hour basis. BCES works directly with the 12 volunteer Fire & EMS
agencies to provide the best services possible with a combination system
of career and volunteer staff.
The current Emergency Services Division is comprised of 8 field personnel, 3 24-Hour Shift
Supervisors, Training Coordinator, Captain, Division Chief, and Emergency Services
Coordinator, bringing total staffing to15 personnel.
Currently BCES provides daylight transport services with two ALS transport units strategically
located within high volume areas of Botetourt County, and a 24-hour ALS shift supervisor who
operates as a nighttime quick response unit.
BCES was established in December 2001 and has grown from a staffing of 2 personnel to what it
is today. Not only does our agency provide fire and EMS services, but also assists in emergency
management, grant writing, and many other support functions for the community and volunteer
agencies.
Being a rural EMS system BCES provides a wide array of advanced medical capabilities
including: 12-Lead EKG, STEMI Field Heart Alert protocols, Automated CPR devices,
Capnography, EZ-IO, CPAP and other extended medical protocols.
Positions Include:

EMT/Firefighter-BLS ($31,498 to $48,747) DOQ
EMT/Firefighter-ALS ($32,772 to $51,244) DOQ

Minimum Requirements: 21 years of age, valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving
record, current EVOC, current VDFP FF I, FFII preferred. Virginia OEMS EMT-B or E (BLS),
EMT-I or P (ALS) with verifiable field experience, current CPR, PEPP, PHTLS, and ACLS
(ALS) preferred. Residence in or within 20 miles driving distance of Botetourt County required.
Must be able to pass standard medical exams and physical ability/practical skills tests. Will be
required to perform all physical tasks associated with emergency medical services, fire
suppression and related activities.
