The Loudoun County, VA Department of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Management will establish an eligibility pool for the position of Fire Fighter/EMT to fill regular, full-time position vacancies. Job Description: Oversees all aspects of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for the City of Chesapeake, Fire Department. Monitors the daily activities of EMS Supervisors, coordinates and manages staff; leads the planning, development and implementation of policies and programs for EMS. Establishes organizational goals; evaluates programs to ensure effectiveness and continually seeks process improvement. Establishes and maintains liaisons with other city departments and outside agencies. Develops strategic plans for the department to meet current and future community needs. Demonstrates extensive knowledge of EMS practices and procedures.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s from an accredited university with major course work in fire science, emergency medical services, information systems, public administration or closely related fields. Must have extensive knowledge of emergency medical services, principles and techniques, laws, regulations and ordinances. Requires a minimum of six (6) years of related, full-time equivalent experience with at least two years at the chief officer level.
Additional certifications and licenses include a valid driver’s license or CDL with a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards. Special Protective services skills and/or equipment certifications are required such as EMT-Paramedic, ACLS, PALS, BLS HCP, Hazardous Materials, ICS-300 and 400, IS-100, 200, 700 and IS-800. Virginia certifications are required within six (6) months of hire.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Driver’s License
Special skills or equipment certifications associated with protective services will be required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires over six years, with two years at the Chief Officer level.
PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:
Requires light to medium work that involves walking or standing some all of the time, exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, and considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy. Must have the ability to bend, stoop, stretch, climb and crawl into confined spaces while wearing approximately 70 pounds of protective clothing and equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:
The job risks exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, disease/pathogens, toxic/caustic chemicals, explosives, and violence.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
