Public Safety Technician
The Campbell County Department of Public Safety, EMS Division is seeking motivated, customer service oriented and skilled Emergency Medical Service providers to fill up to six vacancies. It is anticipated that at least three to four of
the vacancies filled will be with applicants certified at the level of EMT Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic. All applicants must have current Virginia EMS certification at the level of EMT-Basic or higher, NIMS IS-700 and NIMS IS-100
certifications, current EVOC (class 3) and CPR certifications along with at least one full year of active EMS experience. Applicants certified as an EMT Intermediate or Paramedic must also have current ACLS, PALS and ITLS/PHTLS certifications. The ideal candidates will also have vehicle extrication certification, Virginia firefighter certification and/or instructor certifications as well. This position requires honesty, integrity and the ability to work well with the
County’s EMS Volunteers. The selected candidates will be assigned to 24 hour shifts located out of any one of the rescue squad facilities in Campbell County.

The successful candidates will be required to pass a written EMS exam, EMS skills test, a series of interviews, a pre-employment physical, drug screening.

Starting Salary Range: Dependant upon qualifications and/or experience.

Description:

Responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls to protect life and property. Performs skilled work in combating, extinguishing and preventing fires. Qualifications:

High school graduation or possession of a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be tobacco-free and nicotine-free at the time of appointment, and be willing to sign a Conditions of Employment Agreement to not use tobacco or tobacco products on or off-duty.

BCES provides Fire and Emergency Medical Services to the 35,000 plus
citizens covering over 512 square miles of the County of Botetourt on a
24-hour basis. BCES works directly with the 12 volunteer Fire & EMS
agencies to provide the best services possible with a combination system
of career and volunteer staff.
The current Emergency Services Division is comprised of 8 field personnel, 3 24-Hour Shift
Supervisors, Training Coordinator, Captain, Division Chief, and Emergency Services
Coordinator, bringing total staffing to15 personnel.
Currently BCES provides daylight transport services with two ALS transport units strategically
located within high volume areas of Botetourt County, and a 24-hour ALS shift supervisor who
operates as a nighttime quick response unit.
BCES was established in December 2001 and has grown from a staffing of 2 personnel to what it
is today. Not only does our agency provide fire and EMS services, but also assists in emergency
management, grant writing, and many other support functions for the community and volunteer
agencies.
Being a rural EMS system BCES provides a wide array of advanced medical capabilities
including: 12-Lead EKG, STEMI Field Heart Alert protocols, Automated CPR devices,
Capnography, EZ-IO, CPAP and other extended medical protocols.
Positions Include:

EMT/Firefighter-BLS ($31,498 to $48,747) DOQ
EMT/Firefighter-ALS ($32,772 to $51,244) DOQ

Minimum Requirements: 21 years of age, valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving
